About Adoptions

Dog and cat adoptions are the cornerstone of our mission and services. Since 1979, we have been sheltering animals and placing them into loving homes; however, our work is still not done. There are thousands of animals in shelters waiting for homes across the Chicagoland area. We hope you will take some time to learn more about our adoption process and meet the pets currently available for adoption at the Naperville Area Humane Society.

Adopters must be at least 18 years of age and provide a valid driver's license or state ID and proof of current address.

Naperville Area Humane Society is a proud partner of the Pets for Patriots program. This unique adoption program matches homeless shelter pets with veterans. Together, we’re determined to make the joys of pet ownership achievable and affordable for the men and women of the U.S. Military.

Tails For Courage:

At Naperville Area Humane Society, we recognize and appreciate our first responders by offering an exclusive 50% pet adoption discount for animals who are 1 year and
older.

If you or someone you know meets our program eligibility and is interested in adopting a cat or dog, please visit us today and let us help you find your new best friend.

Eligibility: Firefighters, police officers, paramedics, EMTs, animal control officers, doctors, nurses, & other licensed first responders

*Must provide license or badge upon adoption

Veterans:

In Illinois, House Bill 2500 offers U.S. Military veterans the opportunity to adopt shelter cats and dogs at no cost. This program applies to all available animals at the Naperville Area Humane Society.

To qualify, veterans must present a current and valid driver’s license, Illinois Identification Card, or Illinois Person with a Disability Identification Card with the word "veteran" printed on it at the time of adoption to receive the waived adoption fee.

Cat Adoptions:

Cat Adoption Fees:

  • Senior Cats (7 years and older):  Fee waived, courtesy of The Lucky 7 Fund

  • Adult Cats (1 year to 6 years): $100

  • Kittens (2 months to 11 months): 

    • $150 for a single

    • $225 for a pair


each Cat ADOPTION includes

  • Initial vet exam

  • Spay/neuter surgery

  • FeLV/FIV test

  • Microchip

  • FVRCP combo vaccination

  • Rabies vaccination (if age appropriate)

  • Deworming

  • Flea treatment (if necessary)

Dog adoptions:

Dog Adoption Fees:

  • Senior Dogs (7 years and older):  Fee waived, courtesy of The Lucky 7 Fund

  • Adult Dogs (1 year to 6 years): $300

  • Young Dogs (6 months to 11 months): $350

  • Puppies (2 to 5 months): $400


Each Dog Adoption includes

  • Initial vet exam

  • Spay/neuter surgery

  • Heartworm test (if age appropriate) and first preventive

  • Microchip

  • DA2PPV combo vaccination

  • Bordetella vaccination

  • Rabies vaccination (if age appropriate)

  • Deworming

  • Flea treatment (if necessary)

  • Collar
