K9 manners

The K9 Manners program allows kids ages 11 to 15 to work with the shelter dogs in each class and learn about animal behavior and positive reinforcement training techniques. Students will train adoptable dogs for a variety of different activities such as, agility trials, and nose-work & preparing dogs for the requirements of the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certification.

Students will feel accomplished by enriching a shelter animal’s life through targeted training as well as human-animal bonding. Children will be able to utilize the skills they develop with any animal they work with in the future.

Please note: This program is not appropriate for children with fear or anxiety towards animals.

It was a great experience because I got to learn how to train dogs - some will respond to treats, and others will learn from toys and clicker training. I liked that I got to meet and work with a new dog each week. It made me want to volunteer with my parents at NAHS.
